Controlled Ovarian Stimulation & IUI

Infertility treatment refers to technologies and associated methods used to assist people in achieving a pregnancy. In Infertility treatment, both male and female partners are clinically evaluated, followed by conducting the necessary hormonal and imaging studies to make accurate diagnosis on disease severity. A detailed treatment plan is then narrated at the end of the day. Your treatment options will depend on the cause of your infertility. Lifestyle changes, medication, surgery, or other approaches may be recommended. Some treatments may be combined to improve results. Infertility often can be successfully treated even if no cause is found. Hormonal stimulation of the ovary requires high expertise. Both under stimulation and over stimulation of the ovaries are not acceptable. In the former case, the chance of getting pregnancy is less, and in the latter case, even major complication like ovarian hyper stimulation (OHSS)could occur. At Kokoori Institute, OHSS incidence is hardly 0.5%. Delivery of washed processed sperms with the help of a cannula in uterine cavity is known as Intra Uterine Insemination. This is a common, easy good technique to help infertile couples with patent fallopian tubes. If ovulation drugs are used with IUI, multiple pregnancies can occur. If too many eggs are developing at the time of insemination, the insemination may be postponed.

IUI ( Intra Uterine Insemination)

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is the placing of sperm into a woman’s uterus when she is ovulating. This procedure is used for couples with unexplained infertility, minimal male factor infertility, and women with cervical mucus problems. IUI is often done in conjunction with ovulation-stimulating drugs. IUI can be performed using the husband’s sperm or donor sperm. Before IUI, the woman should be evaluated for any hormonal imbalance, infection or any structural problems. Insemination is performed at the time of ovulation, usually within 24-36 hours after the LH surge is detected, or after the “trigger” injection of hCG is administered. Ovulation is predicted by a urine test kit or blood test and ultrasound. IUI is also used with specially prepared donor sperm. The sperm bank sends the sperm that is clinically tested and certified against viral markers and blood related disorders (Sickle cell anemia and thalassemia) for IUI. IUI is a relatively quick procedure and is performed in the doctor’s office without any anesthesia. It should not be painful, although some women report mild discomfort.
